ACEHTREND.CO, Dunia – Even though the civil war has ended in Sri Lanka a few years ago, the suffering of Tamils continue. Due to the harassment of the security forces and the grab of Tami ancestral lands, Tamils continue to flee the county.
A few days ago a boat carrying about 35 Tamil refugees enroute to Australia was forced to land in a port near Aceh Besar, Aceh, Indonesia.
Among the refugees were women and children. One woman was found to be pregnant and admitted to a hospital on humanitarian grounds.
While the refugees are under the survelliance of the police, NGOs and welfare agencies are providing food and medical assistance to them.
Acehnese being known for their generosity are urging the authorities to provide temporary stay for the refugees until their their problems can be sorted out by internstional humanitarian agencies.
Tamils fleeing discrimination and harassment from Sri Lanka are genuine refugees and are not economic migrants.
During the civil war that ended in 2009 more than one hundred thousans were killed, women raped and thousands went missing.
Despite the urging of the UN Human Rights Council to allow for international investigation, the Sri Lankan government refuses to do so citing various excuses.
Until there is a return to normalcy in Tamil areas in the country, the international community can expect more Tamils to flee the oppressive conditions imposed on their community by the wicked racist Sri Lankan regime.
The Acehnese must be thanked for their humanitarian gesture.
The former leaders of the Tamil liberation movement had great respect for the Acehnese freedom struggle spearheaded by GAM (Gerakan Aceh Merdeka).
This is press realese from Prof Dr P Ramasamy former GAM’s Advisor and Deputy Chief Minister of Penang State that accepted AcehTrend today.
